In recognition of May as Water Awareness Month, the District
holds an annual “How I Conserve Water” poster contest for
4th and 5th grade students. Entrants are
asked to create a colorful drawing and slogan that explains
why water is so important and how we can conserve it.
The
2008 winners are..... Joseph Gallo,
Kimberly
Reyes,
Tabatha Ruiz and Katie
Carole.

First
Place: Joseph
Gallo, a fifth grader at Main Street elementary won the grand prize, a $100 savings bond and a trophy for his colorful
poster entitled Shower
Time.
Kimberly Reyes a fifth grader at Soquel Elementary
reminds us not to water during the heat of the day.

Runners
up: Tabatha Ruiz, a fifth grader at Mar Vista Elementary for
Save Agua.

Fourth
place: Katie
Carole a fourth
grader from Green Acres Elementary won a trophy for her poster
entitled Dirt
Bath.

The
first place winner’s art teacher, Jill Gallo with
Dragonfly
Arts
School
was given a $25 gift certificate to Kaleidoscope, the
Parent/Teacher Store for making the poster contest an activity
in her class. Two of the winning posters, Shorter Shower and
Dirt Bath were done in her class.

first place winner’s teacher, Mrs. McClintock from Main
Street

Parent/Teacher Store, for supporting conservation education in
her classroom.
